Intro
Fit Phone is the original electronic workout log for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Fit Phone was the first dedicated workout log and we still think we're the best available in the app store. We pride ourselves on keeping Fit Phone simple to use. Simply tap the plus sign to make a new workout, set the date, add a few exercises and you're ready for the gym. It gets even easier after logging results. If you use the same workout again you can have a complete new workout, including exercise results, in three taps. It’s time to get rid of the pen and paper and let Fit Phone simplify your tracking needs.
Customize
There are a number of options that you can set in order to customize Fit Phone to work the way you want it to. To access these options open the Settings application from your devices home screen. Scroll down to the list of applications and select the row for Fit Phone.
Adding Exercises
Creating workouts in Fit Phone is pretty simple. But first you will most likely want to add any exercises that are missing from the default list. The ability to add as many exercises as you like is a key feature of Fit Phone. This way you end up with more of what you want rather than using what we think you want. To add exercises go to the Exercises tab. Tap the Add button in the top right and fill out all of the data. You must enter a category and a name before Fit Phone will allow you to save your exercise.
Timed Exercise or Cardio Log?
There are three options for the exercise. The default is that the exercise being created is a weight based exercise and results will be entered by weight and reps. There two other options on the new exercise page: Cardio Log and Time Based. Time based is a simple entry that allows you to enter just time and distance. Cardio Log is much more extensive for tracking things like running, biking, etc. This allows you track time, distance, pace, heart rate, weather conditions, mood, and other categories. Selecting the Cardio Log option also allows you to use the new GPS tracking feature of Fit Phone to automatically track your route and store your time, distance, pace, and route. You cane read more about that below.
Workouts
The Workouts tab is where you can create, view, and manage all of your workouts. This is where you will most likely be spending most of your time in Fit Phone after you have all of your exercises entered. The default view is a calendar view that will display your workouts on the days of the month. Selecting a day will display all the workouts scheduled for that day. You can switch to a plain list view of your workouts simply by tapping the List View button in the top left of the display. You can add a workout from either view by tapping the + button in the top right. If you add a workout from the calendar view you will be presented with a new screen that will allow you to copy a previous workout. This is a very quick way to "reuse" a workout that you perform over and over again. Copying a workout will copy the name, exercises, and results. So you need to enter data if you change up your weight.
Of course before you can copy a workout you need to make new ones. This is pretty easy to. If you add a new workout from the list view you will automatically start with a blank workout. From the calendar view select New Blank Workout from the screen that appears after tapping the + button and then select the new workout from the list below the calendar (we will fix this in a future release to automatically display the new workout). You will now be viewing the workout overview screen. Here you can change the name, date and add overall workout notes by tapping the general section. You add exercises by tapping the New Exercise row in the Exercises section. When the exercises screen appears select all the exercises you want for your workout and tap the back button in the top left when you're finished. All of your selected exercises should now be displayed in the Exercises section. You can remove exercises from workouts by tapping the Edit button in the top right and then deleting whatever exercises you choose. Once in edit mode you can also reorder the exercises so they are in the order you perform them. This makes for easy navigation when entering results.
Entering Results
To enter results select a workout from either the calendar view or list view on the main Workouts tab and then select an exercise from the workout's list of exercises. You will see one of three displays based on the type of exercise you selected. All of the displays will have a navigation bar on the bottom to allow you to move forward and back in the list of exercises. This makes it very easy to go back and forth during between exercises while working out.
Weight Based Results
Weight based results will allow you to enter results based on weight and reps grouped into sets.
To add sets tap the Add Set button on the bottom toolbar. To enter results just tap on the set row. You can then enter the weight, reps, and any notes you want to enter about that set.
Cardio Log Results
The Fit Phone Cardio Log allows you to extensively track any exercises you designate as a Cardio Log exercise.
Besides entering the results manually here you can also auto track exercises using the built-in GPS. When you first come into the cardio log you will see an activity indicator over the bottom toolbar. This is Fit Phone attempting to get an accurate read of your location. You can elect to cancel this if you don't plan on using the GPS. Once Fit Phone has your location you can start tracking by tapping the Start Tracking button.
You will then see a display with a timer, distance label, pace label, and a map displaying your current location. At this point you can lock your device and start performing your activity. By locking your device you will cut down on battery consumption. The GPS and Fit Phone will continue to track your progress while the screen is locked. Just make sure you don't hit the home button and exit Fit Phone or you will not be tracked.
Fit Phone will announce your time and distance every so often. You can configure how often this is announced by modifying the announce every _ field. Just tap where the number is and set the distance increment you want Fit Phone to make announcements.
Once you're done tracking tap the Stop Tracking button. When you hide the tracking display you will be back to the Cardio Log. You can start up tracking again and it will pick up where it left off. So if you had to stop for some reason you won't lose everything. You can also lock your results by tapping the lock button in the bottom left. This will prevent you from starting tracking again. It will also stop Fit Phone from attempting to locate you every time you enter the Cardio Log for this exercise.
Time Based Results
Time Based results are a simply entry for exercises to track time and distance only. This is pretty much a left over from older versions of Fit Phone but can still be of use if that's all you care about. The display looks much like weight based except that it's not set based.
Body Stats
Fit Phone allows you to track your body weight and body measurements so you can easily tell how your body is responding to all your hard work.
Body Weight
Just enter the date and you weight and you’ve just tracked your body weight. If you like add a photo so that you can easily see your results when scrolling through the weights.
Anytime you enter a weight Fit Phone will automatically calculate the difference from the last weight entered. So don’t worry about the math, we’ll do it for you!
Body Measurements
Just like body weight tracking all you need to do is enter a date and a measurement. And if you like add a photo of the body part. When you tap the New Measurements row you will be given a measurement sheet to enter measurements from. There a number of body parts you can track by default and you can add as many others as you wish.
Reports
Fit allows you to view results in a number of different ways. All of the exercise results are viewable on the Reports tab. You can graph all exercises performed, results or weight based and cardio log exercises. You can also view your results in a simple list view.
Email Results
From the Reports tab you can do a number of different things. The first is email your results to yourself or anyone else you wish to email them to. You simple specify a time range and the format of the data(comma separated or tab separated) and Fit Phone will email the results as an attachment that can easily be imported into spreadsheets.
One Rep Max
You can also calculate your one rep max from the Reports. Simply select the exercise and Fit Phone will automatically calculate your one rep max based on your previous results. If you don't have any results saved yet you can still calculate it by entering the data manually.
Data Backups
The last important feature on the Reports tab is data backups. Fit Phone provides several ways to backup your data. The first is online based on your device ID. When you perform an online backup Fit Phone will send it's data to our servers and save it there. If anything ever happens to Fit Phone on your device you can simply come back to the backup section and perform an online restore. Fit Phone will know to grab your data from our servers and put it back onto your device. Once you perform a backup Fit Phone will remind you to perform another one if you haven't done so in over a week. This is all to help protect you from unexpected data loss.
The online backup based on device is good but only allows you use one device at a time. If you switch devices it will also switch your backup to your new device. As of Fit Phone 5.2.1 you choose to backup your data online using your Facebook account. We don't use your Facebook account for anything except the unique ID that comes with it. We don't want to get into user account management and most people don't want another account. So you login with your existing Facebook account and we will use your Facebook ID to store your data on our website. The nice thing about this is that you can backup and restore from any device you like. So if you use two devices you can simply backup the one with the newest data and restore it to your other device.
The third option to save data is through the use of SyncDocs. SyncDocs is a free and opensource software project that makes it simple to perform backups to your computer using your WiFi network. You can grab SynDocs for free here: SyncDocs Download. Just launch SyncDocs on your computer. Then connect your device to your WiFi network and go the backup section on the Reports tab. When you select the SyncDocs option and then Backup you should see a listing for SyncDocs. Select that and your data will be sent to your computer. If you have any problems using SyncDocs please contact us and we'll help you troubleshoot. Using SyncDocs is the best way to move Fit Phone data between devices. You can perform a backup on one device and then restore that data to another device.
Music
As of Fit Phone 5.1 you can control your music directly from Fit Phone. Just tap the More tab and then select Music. From here you select a playlist to start playing by tapping the Playlist button. Or you can select a bunch of songs from your library by selecting the Songs button. When selecting songs you pick as many individual songs, entire albums, or your entire library. Just tap Done when you've selected all the songs you want and they will set as the only songs to playback. They will repeat if you hit the last song you selected. You will be able to see the album cover, song name, and artist name from the main music page. As well as control the playback with the standard music player controls.
